The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles has launched driver’s licenses and identification cards with a new look and design. The DMV started issuing the new cards the week of April 24, 2023.

Visual design highlights tourist attractions

The new design features a background of the state’s historic New River Gorge Bridge in the nation’s newest National Park, the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve. West Virginia’s “Almost Heaven” tourism mark appears on the back of each card.

Commissioner of the West Virginia DMV, Everett Frazier, explains that the “new credential contains state-of-the-art security features to reduce fraud and identity theft.” He encourages West Virginians to consider upgrading to a REAL ID license or ID card, even before their current credential expires.
