The Ministry of Public Security will start issuing new ordinary passports for Vietnamese citizens starting July 1, 2022. The new passport will have new designs and security features, the latter to help prevent counterfeiting. The ordinary passport was last redesigned in 2007.
According to the Ministry, each page of the new passport depicts a scenic landscape, the national sovereignty symbol, and a famous cultural icon such as Ha Long Bay, Hue Imperial City, Hung King Temple, Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Sanctuary, Nha Rong Wharf, and Lung Cu Flagpole. These images are intended to promote Vietnam’s tradition, history, geography, and culture.
The Keesing Platform will provide images and more detailed information as it becomes available.
Starting June 1 and until July 1, the Ministry will stop issuing the previous version of the ordinary passport except in necessary and urgent cases, in which passport applicants need to go overseas for medical treatment or must take a trip for business or use a non-refundable airline ticket.
All other Vietnamese citizens will have to wait until July 1 to apply for the new passport at the Immigration Department. Meanwhile, previously-issued passports will remain valid until the stated expiration date.
