Venezuelans who moved to the Dominican Republic due to the economic and humanitarian crisis will need a visa as of 16 December.

Until then they will be able to use a tourist card, which can be bought in airports.

Legal and illegal Venezuelan immigrants have been coming to the Dominican Republic in recent years.

Around 30,000 Venezuelan citizens have overstayed their tourist permits and are living illegally in the Dominican Republic.

Many others will travel to the country to buy medical supplies or other basic goods.

Some of them will use the Dominican Republic as a gateway to emigrate to other countries.
