Venezuela’s National Institute of Land Transport (INTT) has begun issuing a driver’s license in a new format, with a unique design that conforms to the standards set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The new driver’s license is protected by special characteristics and security features such as:

  • It is made of a durable 7-layer polycarbonate.
  • Security holograms that react to ultraviolet light.
  • An electronic chip that enables the card’s activation.

Another advantage of Venezuela’s new driver’s license is a QR code that links to the holder’s unique profile in the INTT system. The profile contains information about the driver and his or her vehicle(s), including personal data, medical information, and the number of vehicles the driver owns, etc.

Remarks from the issuing agency

The INTT states, “The change in format contributes to the policies of the Great Mission Quadrants of Peace, in its vertices 1 and 11, focused on Comprehensive Prevention and the Development of Technological Innovation to strengthen Citizen Security.” The agency goes on to explain, “This new format will allow international agreements for exchanging licenses to be renewed, benefiting hundreds of compatriots who need their documentation to travel in their countries of residence.”
