As of January the 4th Uzbekistan has started replacing the biometric passports with ID Cards.

In order to get the ID card one must have a passport, write an application and pay a fee.

The document and the chip will be protected by appropriate security certificates and an electronic digital signature.

ID cards are issued primarily to :

  • citizens reaching 16 years
  • citizens who lost their passports or whose passports expired,
  • those willing to change their names or ethnicity until December 31, 2022.

The replacement of biometric passports with ID cards will become mandatory in 2023.
