As of January the 4th Uzbekistan has started replacing the biometric passports with ID Cards.
In order to get the ID card one must have a passport, write an application and pay a fee.
The document and the chip will be protected by appropriate security certificates and an electronic digital signature.
ID cards are issued primarily to :
- citizens reaching 16 years
- citizens who lost their passports or whose passports expired,
- those willing to change their names or ethnicity until December 31, 2022.
The replacement of biometric passports with ID cards will become mandatory in 2023.
The cards will be valid for 10 years and can be used only on the territory of Uzbekistan.
