The United Arab Emirates (UAE), where expatriates make up about 85% of the population, eased rules for renewing worker visas due to the coronavirus.

Emirates News Agency reports labourers employed by companies and domestic helpers will be exempt from the mandatory medical tests for visas.

According to the UAE’s official news agency, work permits and residence visas will be renewed automatically after the necessary fees have been paid.

Bloomberg reports that the UAE has reported 333 COVID-19 cases, including two fatalities.

The country has also halted flights, shut shopping centres and rolled out a $34 billion stimulus package in an effort to counter the effects.
