Guyana’s $500 and $1,000 banknotes have been upgraded with the integration of advanced security features. On July 29, 2024, the Bank of Guyana put into circulation revised versions of the two denominations.

The general design, coloration, substrate, and size of the new notes are the same as their previous counterparts issued in 2011 ($500 denomination) and 2019 ($1,000 denomination).

A closer look at the upgraded security features

Key security features on both denominations have been replaced with more advanced security features. In both denominations, these features are on the front side of the note.

2024 500 Guyanese dollar note (front)

The holographic stripe on the front of the $500 note has been replaced with a RollingStar® Lead Pure security foil. This 10mm wide micro mirror features a Macaw and shifts from magenta to green when tilted.

2024 1,000 Guyanese dollar note (front)

The RAPID® micro-optic security feature on the $1,000 note has been replaced with a 6mm-wide, brown/green Vision feature that displays a Jaguar with a pulse effect and alternating movement when tilted.

The previous versions of both denominations remain valid as legal tender and circulate alongside the upgraded notes.
