The Bank of Namibia recently presented its modern, upgraded series of banknotes with the theme, “Our Currency, Our Heritage, Our Pride – Meet the Next Generation of the Namibia Dollar.” The bank emphasizes that, “This next-generation currency affirms Namibia’s commitment to technological advancement, economic sovereignty, and national pride—ushering in a secure, inclusive, and future-ready era of the Namibia Dollar.”
The new banknotes are scheduled to enter into circulation this month. There are five denominations in the new series: N$10, N$20, N$50, N$100, and N$200, all of them upgraded to meet today’s international standards.
The new notes will circulate alongside the notes already in circulation.
What’s familiar and what’s new
At first glance, the new notes appear similar in color and visual design to the previous series in circulation. The back side of each denomination (not shown here) features a unique antelope species, the design integrated with the security features and print elements.
However, the new series has added numerous upgrades to the notes, including substrates and security features.
New 10 Namibian Dollars Banknote (front side)

New 20 Namibian Dollars Banknote (front side)
The new N$10 and N$20 denomination notes are printed on composite substrate DURASFE® which blends the durability of polymer with the familiar feel of paper.

New 50 Namibian Dollars Banknote (front side)

New 100 Namibian Dollars Banknote (front side)

New 200 Namibian Dollars Banknote (front side)
The three higher denomination notes (50, 100, and 200 Namibian dollars) are printed on paper. Because the higher denomination notes aren’t handled as frequently as the lower denominations, they don’t require a substrate more durable than paper.
Upgraded security features
Significant upgrades have been made to the security features of the banknotes, as follows:
- The higher denomination notes integrate an IGNITE® color-changing security thread with motion effect.
- The two lower denomination notes contain a PUREIMAGE™ holographic security thread.
- All denominations include enhanced GEMINI® UV print technology.
Tactile features for visually impaired consumers
All banknotes in the new series have slanted lines in a raised (tactile) print to help blind and visually impaired consumers identify the note’s denomination.
