Taiwan is prepared to begin issuing new redesigned passports on January 11, this has been reported by RTI.

The new passports will have a new design to make the word “Taiwan” more prominent.

On the new passport cover the country’s official English name “The Republic of China” is changed to small text circled around the national emblem.

The passport cover has also been redesigned to minimize confusion between the Taiwanese and the Chinese passports.

The foreign ministry has said that 500,000 of the new passports have already been prepared for citizens who are interested in applying for them

Taiwan’s representative offices abroad have been instructed to inform foreign governments, airports, ports, foreign immigration bureaus, the International Air Transport Association, and airlines of the new design.
