The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) plans to introduce a new 20-rupee coin and a new 2,000-rupee banknote in 2020.

CBSL says the aim of the addition to its currency, is to commemorate the bank’s 70th anniversary.

The bank says the coin and banknote will be introduced under the existing 11th note series.

The series’ security features will also be upgraded.
