Bank of England has partnered with multimedia messaging app Snapchat to launch a magical augmented reality (AR) filter that brings the new £20 note to life.

According to the bank, the filter enables users to see a full colour animated version of JMW Turner’s painting, The Fighting Temeraire, which features on the new banknotes.

The much-anticipated new polymer £20 banknote was launched on 20 February and is Bank of England’s most advanced ever, with several security and design features which make it difficult to counterfeit.

The public will be able to spend the old paper £20 as usual until all of them will be slowly withdrawn as they are banked by retailers.

A notice will be given six months before the paper one will be withdrawn.
