The National Bank of Belarus has confirmed its plans to issue the renewed Br20 and Br50 banknotes in 2020.

Banknotestreet reports that the changes in the security features include a watermark, security thread, hidden image, and individual machine-readable security elements.

Two-sided varnishing and contour reinforcement will also increase the durability of the banknote.

According to Belarus News, the updated Br5 and Br10 banknotes were put into circulation in May 2019. Commemorative coins were also issued in 2019, with more coming in 2020.

The bank plans to issue commemorative coins dedicated to the 150th birthday of Belarusian painter, Ferdynand Ruszczyc, and a commemorative coin celebrating avant-garde art.
