The Government of the Falkland Islands will release a new family of banknotes on August 14, 2025—Falklands Day. The new family of notes represents the first new design in more than four decades. Notes in denominations of 5, 10, and 20 pounds will be put into circulation. (No 50-pound notes will be printed in the new design, since the Treasury still has enough of the existing notes to last 90 years.)
New substrate, new design
The new banknotes will be printed on a polymer substrate, an upgrade from its current paper notes.

A notable change in the banknote design is that the portraits of the late Queen Elizabeth will be replaced with images of King Charles III. Furthermore, the new design will reflect the public’s preference for imagery of iconic flora and fauna, including the albatross and king penguin.
The new notes will include upgraded security features such as a transparent king penguin window with iridescent ink, ultraviolet designs, and infrared inks.
The new polymer notes will have embossed dots to help consumers who are visually impaired identify the denomination.
It is expected that the old notes will be withdrawn from circulation in 2026.
