The Central Bank of Peru launched two new banknotes in denominations of 20 and 50 Soles on 20 July 2022. They are the latest additions to the new family of banknotes Peru introduced last summer with new 10 and 100 Soles notes

The new banknotes incorporate modern designs, new motifs, and modern security features. The images portrayed in this series pay tribute to important figures from Peru’s 20th century sciences and humanities, as well as featuring the country’s varied flora and fauna.

For the first time, the reverse side of the notes in this series are vertical in orientation. The notes also feature tactile registrations to help the visually-impaired identify the note’s denomination. Both new banknotes measure 140 x 65 mm and are printed on paper.

The 20-Soles banknote:

The historic Peruvian figure featured on the face of this note is José María Arguedas, known for his commitment to finding truth and social justice. He also included Andean art and customs in his works. The design on the reverse side incorporates images of the Andean condor, coat of arms, and the Cantuta flower, which is the National Flower of Peru.
