Last Friday, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced that it would suspend travel with the use of the civil card making it no longer possible to travel to and from the Sultanate for Omani citizens and nationals of the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with this card.

Times of Oman reports that an online statement by ROP said: “The Royal Oman Police (ROP), draws the attention of the Omani citizens and the citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC) that the use of the civil card to get to and from the Sultanate is suspended for the Omanis and GCC nationals.”

“This decision applies to all boarders of the Sultanate starting Saturday 29, 2020 at noon.”

The statement said there was an exception in the following cases:

  • Omanis who are currently abroad and left the Sultanate with a civil identity card
  • citizens of the Cooperation Council countries who are currently in the Sultanate and entered with a civil ID wishing to return to their countries.
