Effective February 17, 2026, Service Oklahoma started issuing redesigned driver licenses and state ID cards that significantly enhance credential security while reflecting Oklahoma’s identity.

The new credentials are produced using a highly durable polycarbonate material that allows for the integration of advanced, tamper-resistant security features designed to prevent counterfeiting. The material also reduces cracking or peeling over time.

A distinct Oklahoma aesthetic

The new design features iconic Oklahoma symbols such as the North American bison, scissortail flycatcher, and redbud tree.

New design brings a new REAL ID symbol

Another change to the design of Oklahoma’s credentials is its REAL ID symbol. The previous symbol was a gold circle/star cutout, while the new symbol to indicate REAL ID status is a black circle/star cutout.

Standard (non-REAL ID) credentials are marked “NOT ACCEPTABLE FOR REAL ID OFFICIAL PURPOSES.”

Modern security features

The new Oklahoma credentials have integrated modern security features such as:

  • A laser engraved, tamper-proof, black-and-white portrait of the cardholder.
  • Animated secondary portrait with text that changes based on viewing angle.
  • Microprinting that includes the names of all 77 counties in the state.
  • Iconic Oklahoma symbols and images that are only visible under UV light.

What license holders need to know

Existing Oklahoma credentials will remain valid until their expiration date. The new credential will be issued at no additional cost when a customer renews or replaces their card, with the option to choose either a REAL ID–compliant or non-compliant credential.
