On January 1st 2021, Taiwan will introduce new entry and exit stamps for passports. They will show the outline of Taiwan instead of a plum blossom, according to the Ministry of the Interior.

For the first time in eight years a new design is introduced. The new stamps will be more difficult to forge in order to increase the fight against smuggling and counterfeiting.

A lot of symbolism can be found in the design as well. The new design symbolizes Taiwan’s determination to break out of its diplomatic isolation the Ministry explains.

The letters “TWN” are printed is such a way that they represent the country’s central mountain range.

The new design will be used at airports and harbours on all entries and exits, including 30-day and 90-day visa-exempt cases.
