Ukraine is celebrating the 33rd anniversary of its independence with modified banknotes that proclaim, “СЛАВА УКРАЇНІ! ГЕРОЯМ СЛАВА! (Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!)” at the upper right back of each note. To kick off the national celebration, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) put two of the modified banknotes—500- and 1,000- hryvnia—into circulation on August 8, 2024.

The modified notes also feature the date of issue on the back. The face of each note bears the signature of Andriy Pyshnyy, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine. All the other design and security features of the modified banknotes are the same as on the previous versions (the 2015 500-hryvnia and 2019 1,000-hryvnia).

Meanwhile, all hryvnia banknotes already in circulation remain valid as legal tender.
