Last year we highlighted modern passports and other ID documents whose designs celebrate native flora and fauna, as traditional imagery such as portraits of monarchs and coats of arms fall out of favor. In other words, sometimes nature trumps tradition in ID document design.

A similar trend toward nature in design can be seen in the world of banknotes. Feast your eyes on the following examples:

From the Caribbean Islands of Curacao and St. Maarten

The new Caribbean guilder notes draw inspiration from the “World Under the Sea.”

From the Philippines

The new polymer banknote series highlights the country’s natural beauty.

From Kazakhstan

The design of the new family of banknotes depicts the country’s terrain and wildlife, with each denomination featuring a specific animal found in Kazakhstan.

From the Falkland Islands

The new design reflects the public’s preference for imagery of iconic flora and fauna, including the albatross and king penguin.
