A new 20-dinar banknote was put into circulation in Libya on March 20th. The polymer note has advanced security features and is part of a new series being introduced by the Central Bank of Libya (CBL).
On January 20, 2025, the CBL announced that it would issue modernized polymer banknotes in denominations of 5, 10 and 20 Libyan dinars in an effort to upgrade the security and durability of its banknotes. All three denominations will be included in the 2025 series.
Visual design celebrates tradition
Libya’s rich history, traditional symbols and landmarks are evident in the visual design of the new banknote. A portrait of Umar al-Mukhtar, a Libyan national hero, appears in a see-through window visible on both sides of the note.
