The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has made some updates to all denominations of the Kenyan banknotes. All denominations are affected, including the 50 shilingi, 100 shilingi, 200 shilingi, 500 shilingi, and 1,000 shilingi banknotes. The general design, color schemes, and security features of the banknotes remain the same as the notes issued since 2019, but the CBK has made some important updates.

Perhaps the most important change is the addition of new security thread with color changing effects that are unique to each denomination. This feature appears on the face of each note and will enhance the security and deter counterfeiting.

All denominations of the updated notes will bear:

  • The signature of the current Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya, Dr. Kamau Thugge
  • The signature of the current Principal Secretary, National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo
  • 2024 as the year of print.
