The Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) is redesigning and upgrading its banknotes for the first time since 2002. In the new (fifth) series, the denominations (JD1, JD5, JD10, JD20, and JD50) will not change, but the banknotes are being redesigned and advanced security features have been added.

The first note in the new series, the 1 dinar, was put into circulation in late 2022. The remaining denominations will be phased in gradually throughout 2023, starting with the 5 dinars note in March.

As in the previous series, the face of each new note will depict a Hashemite king.

The entire new series was designed by Jordanian banknote designer Ammar Khammash.

The new notes are more durable and user-friendly

All denominations in the new series will be printed on an upgraded, more durable paper substrate with a higher quality cotton backing to extend the life of the banknotes. The dimensions of the banknotes vary somewhat by denomination.

A notable addition to the face of all banknotes in the new series is a set of raised (tactile) diagonal slash marks and dot(s) at the left and right edges, designed to help visually impaired consumers identify the denomination by touch.
