Earlier this year, Japan’s Ministry of Finance revealed new designs for the country’s yen.

The new designs will feature an image of Tokyo Station and the Great Wave off Kanagawa by artist Hokusai. They are scheduled to go into circulation in 2024.

Sora News 24 reports that the redesign prompted Japanese illustrator Ponkichi to come up with an alternative banknote of his own, honouring the nation’s much-loved dog, the Shiba Inu.

The Shiba Inu currency has become so popular, it now has its very own line of merchandise.
