The Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles started issuing driver’s licenses and ID cards in a new design on April 12, 2023.

“The new license showcases some of Idaho’s best features,” said DMV administrator Lisa McClellan. “Idaho’s state bird, the mountain bluebird, is featured prominently. Idahoans will also notice the Sawtooth Mountains and the Idaho Statehouse.”

The new Idaho credentials integrate updated technology and security features to prevent counterfeiting.

All new cards, renewals, and replacements issued on and after April 12 will feature the new design. This applies to driver’s licenses as well as state-issued identification cards and instruction permits.

Idaho credentials in the previous design will remain valid until the expiration date that is printed on the card.
