Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has launched a website for the General Administration of Passports, Emigration and Nationality.

According to the ministry, the website is part of an ongoing modernisation campaign that aims to reduce the waiting time at the department’s offices.

The website offers information on required documents, as well as a number of e-services, which includes allowing individuals to apply for Egyptian citizenship for the children of an Egyptian mother and to apply for Egyptian citizenship for the foreign wife of an Egyptian citizen without having to make a trip to the department’s offices.

Egypt Independent reports e-services also include documentation to prove Egyptian citizenship, permission to apply for foreign citizenship while retaining Egyptian citizenship, and permission to apply for foreign citizenship without retention of Egyptian citizenship.

The General Administration of Passports, Emigration and Nationality also said it would begin providing a smart residence card to foreigners, which should allow them to deal with governmental and non-governmental institutions more easily.
