The Central Bank of Bolivia (BCB) calls its new Series “B” a “fusion of design, security, and trust”. Having launched the first two banknotes in denominations of 100 bolivianos and 200 bolivianos in June 2025, it rounded out the series with the recent introduction of 10-, 20-, and 50-bolivianos notes. The second group of modernized banknotes was put into circulation on October 15, 2025.
The aesthetic design and dynamic security features of the Series B notes “engage the senses, allowing citizens to verify authenticity through touch, sight, and movement.” (Banknote Industry News) The cotton banknotes are also durable, thanks to their stain-resistant coating.
Familiar Bolivian imagery and motifs, more vibrant colors and clarity
The design of the Series B banknotes will look familiar to consumers as the cultural icons and national motifs shown mirror those in the Series A banknotes. However, the Series B notes have greater print clarity and more vibrant colors. These upgrades are evident in the most recent denomination notes, shown below.

What else is new in the Series B banknotes?
The Series B banknotes contain several enhancements in their design, security, and functionality. These include:
- Invisible infrared technology (Detect®), and magnetic inks, both of which increase security and allow for advanced machine readability of the notes.
- Tricolor fluorescent fibers that appear vibrant under UV light.
- Improved UV graphics on the reverse side.
The Series B notes also integrate RAPID® Vision, a visually interactive 3D micro-optic security thread with color movement that animates when the banknote is tilted.
The SPARK Live® feature, which was integrated in Series A, has been retained in Series B due to the technology’s security, visual appeal, and durability.
Tactile features to help visually impaired consumers
Tactile details on key areas help consumers (with and without visual impairments) detect each banknote’s denomination by touch. In all Series B banknotes, the raised intaglio printing area is larger and encompasses elements that were printed in offset in the previous series. These raised details are on both sides of each banknote.
A gradual transition to Series B banknotes
A consumer awareness campaign will help citizens learn how to recognize and use the new banknotes. Financial institutions will be trained in how to authenticate the new notes. Meanwhile, all Series A notes in circulation shall remain valid as legal tender until they are deemed worn-out and removed from circulation by authorities.
