The Regional ID Document of The Year awards, bestowed by High Security Printing™ EMEA, recognise “outstanding achievement and technical sophistication of a personal identification or travel document programme” and are designed to highlight the best in system infrastructure and implementation of a government passport, identity, or other secure identification scheme.

The 2024 winners have been announced in three categories: Best New Passport, Best New National ID Card, and Best New ID or Travel Document.

Best New Passports: Joint winners

ePassport: Kingdom of Bahrain

This ePassport marks a significant achievement as it transitions the Kingdom of Bahrain from a machine-readable passport to an electronic format. See images and get details about the acclaimed document.

Best New National ID Card: Swiss ID Card

Switzerland’s new national ID card was introduced alongside the country’s new passport with a similar visual design celebrating the themes of water and mountains. The card incorporates several advanced security features.

Best New ID or Travel Document: Finland ID Card

Finland’s new national ID card has a minimalistic cover design but a larger photo of the holder inside. It also contains advanced security features and biometric solutions. With Cybersecurity in mind, designers added a feature that allows upgrades of the card’s security software in the field
