Bangladesh will release their new e-passport on 22 January.

North East Now reports that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will launch the e-passport distribution at the Bangabandhu International Conference (BICC).

Initially, the Ministry of Immigration and Passports (DIP), from Bangladesh, will distribute the e-passports from Aragaon, Jatrabari and Uttara passport offices. The later delivery of the document will be phased.

Veridos GmbH will produce the passports.

They signed an agreement with the DIP on 19 July 2018, for the e-passports together with machine-readable ones.

According to North East Now, the project is being carried out until June 2028 with full government funding, and about 30 million documents will be produced in 10 years.

The validity of the e-passports will be for five and ten years.

Two million e-passports will be produced in Germany, which means that the passports for the first applicants will be prepared in Germany.
